Camber, LLC is a small accounting and advisory firm that helps business owners understand, plan, and execute both business and personal financial management. Bookkeeping and tax return preparation, while essential, are just a part of the larger system that produces clarity, predictability, and decision-making confidence.
Camber is owned and managed by Scott Zogbaum. Scott did not start his career as an accountant. Rather, he owned and managed a business with his wife. The experience of operating a business with good market instincts, but lacking financial expertise gives him a critical perspective in his relationship with clients. He knows the confusion, frustration, and anxiety surrounding small business financial management. It is his mission to empower small business creativity by providing clarity and predictability to the business’ and the owners’ personal finances.
He discovered that it is easy to find accountants that prepare tax returns. It is exceedingly difficult to find accounts that effectively meet the operational management needs of small businesses. He set out to fill the small business owners' need to have constant access to a financial expert that has the time, empathy, and small business management experience to support the wholistic needs of the business and the owners.
He asked questions like…Why don’t accountants help evaluate the relationship between pricing, marketing, and profit margins? Why don’t accountants discuss the best option for financing new equipment or a real estate purchase? How much and by what method should an owner pay themselves? Why do accountants describe details about complex tax laws but fail to provide an actionable plan to manage the issue? Why do accountants tend to highlight all the risks of a possible venture rather than provide ideas, methods, and alternatives to help entrepreneurs mitigate the risk while pursuing their passion? Does it make sense to borrow against my house to fund business needs? Should the business seek funding from investors or through debt? And most importantly, even if my accountant could answer these questions, why don’t I want talk to them about it?
Small business ownership is complex. Because of the diversity of Scott’s interests, education, and professional experience, he thrives in the interdisciplinary complexity of small business ownership. He understands the role of accounting, tax compliance and finance within the larger context of operational management, resource limitations, owner goals, and organizational culture. He relates to the excitement. He empathizes with the inevitable anxiety. He is absolutely thrilled provide critical support in the entrepreneurial journey of entrepreneurs.
Prior to starting Camber, LLC, Scott received a bachelors in psychology from the University of Michigan, was an airline pilot, owned a small business with his wife, earned a Masters of Accounting from the University of New Mexico and spent five years with large and small CPA firms. He puts all of these life experiences together in support of small business owners wherever they are on their journey.
